You don't know you're beautiful
G was singing the song "you don't know you're beautiful" to Rbiker (7). He was changing it up to add her name in the song and make it personal. So he sang, "you don't know you're beautiful, Rbiker." To which she paused, looked up and said, "yes I do. I know I'm beautiful."

Who taught him to read?
Nan and I were taking about our kids, and I began to brag about my little Trex (3 1/2) who loves to sound out every string of letters he comes across. Today he picked up an old candy dispenser, and after turning it over and over, announced that it says "eep" both ways. Nan was starting to be impressed, so she asked who taught him to read. To which I replied, "him own self."
She just about died laughing. My use of a colloquialism from my big friendly state seemed to fit the situation in her mind. I guess it's obvious that he must be rising above his roots on his own.
Her mirth made me think that she might be right. Rbiker (7) is still sounding out words to be able to read, and it is not uncommon for me to hear something like, "'p-a-n', 'pan' ? ... Oh payan!" Said in her most sincere southern drawl.

Happy Birthday Store
Trex (4), "Let's go to the Happy Birthday Store."
Mom, "What's that?"
Cani (7), "It's Toys R Us"
Trex, "no it's not. It's the Happy Birthday Store.
Cani, "no it's Toys R Us."
Trex, "fine, but really it's the Happy Birthday Store."

Trex reads milk
Yesterday Trex pulled his chocolate milk out of his lunch and told us it was "my-luck." Look, he said, "m" "i" "l" "k" = "my-luck."

Distracted by ADD
Last night when the house became quiet with all the sleeping inmates, I sat at my computer to finish one last project. But I never got it done (or in fact, even started) because I spent the next 2 hours reading and following one link after another about how people with ADD can bring order and focus into their lives.

Pixie toilet paper
Pixie brought a sample of the toilet paper home from the orthodontist today. She just wanted us to be as impressed as herself about how soft. I guess it's time for me to stop trying to save the planet (we currently subscribe to recycled, non-bleached single-ply) and try instead to improve her private experience. The sample I have to try to match is as soft as a silk pillow. Garry suggested that we get her her own private supply for Christmas.

Pixie on fasting
Tonight Kooky and Pixie and I were talking about fasting and it came up that we are supposed to fast for 24 hours. This was new information to them since they're kids. Pixie quickly replied that she was only fasting for breakfast. But Kooky figured out a way to split the 24 hours between Saturday and Sunday to make it easier to do. Later Pixie said in her prayer, "Please give me all the blessings for the food I'm not going to eat tomorrow. And please give everyone else the blessings for the food the aren't going to eat too."
